By August of 2000, Google had managed to quadruple their index size to approximately one billion web pages. In September of 2003, Google's front-page boasted an index of 3.3 billion web pages.  Others, however, revealed that the actual number of web pages Google had indexed during that time was already more than five billion web pages.

One thing that can be stated is that the Internet is a vast place.  Internet, (the number of websites), size=Huge, enormous, gigantic, massive, etc.

As the number of websites increases the chances of any particular website being found will could decrease.

The Internet is global network linking information together on numerous subjects both in text and multimedia format. If your website has content that is useful then users, (and search engines), will eventually find and use your website.

The internet is sometimes known as the "Information Superhighway" because it may be thought of as being a very large number of interconnecting highways on which information travels.

Technically speaking the The World Wide Web, (The Web) is just part of the Internet. The term is often mistakenly used as a synonym for the Internet itself, but the Web is actually something that is available over the Internet, just like email and many other Internet services.

Notes: On most search engines Paid for listings distort these odds and the chances of sites being found. Therefore; a good listing of any website does not indicate a link to a good website.

Notes: search engines sometimes change the rules about which websites they list and how they are listed. Different search engines may use different methodologies for listing websites, one method may work well with one engine but not so well with another. Even Paid listing rules have been known to change with very little warning.

Think about your audience; that is who you need to view your website. Some search engine may make a charge to list your site in other countries, this may sound good but is your site in that countries language, are you able to accept payment from there and can you deliver, (if so are there extra charges or laws to consider). Ask yourself why pay for traffic from abroad when you don't plan to make any sales there. Who is your target audience? Younger age group or more mature? Male or Female, Lower economic status or higher. Are you targeting a particular profession?

Ask yourself who you think is going to be more likely to subscribe to your ezine, download your trial software, purchase your product...? Someone who has read a short description of your site and decides to click to your site out of their own curiosity and interest? OR someone who is forced to view your site automatically? The answer must surely be someone who has read a short description of your site and decides to click to your site out of their own curiosity and interest? This is one of the main reasons that some of the advertising methods below are not recommended.

Hosted by a free service.  These may receive a lower rank than websites which have there own URL, website name.  Some search engines may use the URL to help find that website and a good website name would be easier for people to remember. For example the URL name for "Compare Bargains" http://www.comparebargains.com  is about comparing bargains, discounts and finding the best prices. The URL name in this case gives the user and some search engines an idea of the content of the website before the user even accesses the website.

Sites under construction. Just a blank page is not recommended but most sites are changing, adding more links improving information all the time. Some search engines improve ranking to websites which improve their content. Also users are more likely to use the website again, (returning visitors), or recommend the site to friends if the site provides useful information and content

Remember they are two basic ways to view search engines:-

  1. As a user looking to find information that is relevant to their search quick and easy.
  2. As a website promoter, also looking for the above, but also looking for a good return on any investment.

Advice: Don't expect instant results. Possibly offer discounts for people who have used the website so that you are able to gauge the success of any campaign. Internet users are hoping for some form of saving and a discount would help encourage them in making a purchase. Use the Internet to advertise. Your competition is using the internet to improve their Brand Image so you need to do likewise. Do some Market Research before paying for larger amounts of advertising. Check your Traffic log files to find out if the method you chose is providing the levels of unique visitors and returning customers you expect to obtain. Give a method time to generate Traffic. Submission Tips; submit to FFA sites re-submit at least every day. Once a week for Classified Ad sites and Message Boards and submit to Search Engines once a month.

Remember that it is People that you really want to visit your website. Using any method of Internet Advertising should aim to achieve this object. This may result in web page design and SEO, search engines optimisation not always being the best for being listed with search engines. Having a good listing is necessary for your website being found but a top paid for listing may not be the best option for you.

While Clicks are important these are not everything involved in longer-term strategies. People seeing your messages, (not clicking just seeing), is more likely to produce results in the longer term. Look how many times you see an advertisement on the television, you do not usually go out and buy that product there and then but the Brand Name is in your mind for when you do come to buy that type of product.

Your Traffic and rankings should not be the major aim it your website. Traffic does not put food on the table. Traffic may very well cost you more in bandwidth and other maintenance charges.

The quality of the Traffic you receive should be the main priority. This Visitors that result in more sales. It is better to receive visitors who are interested in your product than lots of visitors who may just have a passing curiosity.  For this reason think of Titles and Descriptions carefully do the lead to false visits?

You should not try to trick or fool a search engines in the hope of gaining more visitors. This could work for short periods but you risk them refusing to list your website in the longer term.

The more established a domain, the better. Domains names which are purchase for more than one year are better. It is better to register a domain name, URL for a number of years, say 5 to 10 years.

Search Engines are trying to get more and more accurate results for the keywords searched on. This means that items such as website contentmeta tags and images, etc, should be only be related to that websites page. You should avoid any irrelevant words etc...

Remember that conversion rates are just as important as the levels of visitors you receive. Of cause you need to receive visitors before any conversion can take place.

(Why are there are more than one way of advertising listed using a similar method? For example in Blogging more than one method of submission is listed. You may wonder why this is done.. It is done because generally one method may get your website listed with different search engines than the other and also to provide you with some choice).
