Three Click Rule and Site Navigation Advertising Methods

The 3 click rule.

The three click rule states that a user should not have to click any more than three clicks before they find what they are looking for.

Advice: Try to follow the 3 click rule. This is not really a rule but more of a general guideline. The less clicking a user needs to do to find what they are looking for the better. This is just part of Site Navigation 

If you are using PPC then provide a targeted landing page. This should reduce that number of clicks required before the user finds the page relating to the keyword in the PPC advertisement they have clicked on, (one click done already).

Site navigation helps users, (and search engines), find the information they are seeking quickly. It could include items such as in-built search, menus and site maps.

Advice: Good Site Navigation is recommended. Try not to clutter the web page with unnecessary details or information.

Both methods, (3 click rule and Site navigation), are recommended.  Remember that a user, (at least initially), may scan read your web page.

Good site navigation will usually help search engines discover and list your web pages as well.
