Web Slices where introduces as part of the browser Internet Explorer 8.
Using Web Slices, you can keep up with frequently updated sites directly from the Favorites Bar. If a Web Slice is available on a page, a green Web Slices icon will appear in the upper-right hand corner of the browser. You can then easily subscribe and add them to the Favorites Bar or delete Web Slices that are no longer desired.
Web Slices notify the user in their Favorites Bar when a change occurs and allows them to log on to the changed webpage for more details.
Web slices allow users to subscribe to specific content within a page, rather than the whole page (or site) like RSS. When clients detect a change in the content they can notify the user and display the updated slice in a small view pane in the browser.
Advice: Recommended if your web page changes frequently and you would like the user to be informed. There could be limited space on the Favorites Bar for Web Slices.
Of course Web Slices may not function in all types of browsers, this could leave the user feeling upset that an other user may appear to be getting preferential treatment. For example if your Web Slice informs a user of a change in stock prices, via a Web Slice, but fails to inform another user of the same change.
