Turing Test, (Wikipedia), a proposal for a test of a machine's capability to demonstrate thought. Described by Professor Alan Turing in the 1950 paper "Computing machinery and intelligence," it proceeds as follows: a human judge engages in a natural language conversation with two other parties, one a human and the other a machine; if the judge cannot reliably tell which is which, then the machine is said to pass the test. It is assumed that both the human and the machine try to appear human. In order to keep the test setting simple and universal (to explicitly test the linguistic capability of the machine instead of its ability to render words into audio), the conversation is usually limited to a text-only channel such as a teletype machine as Turing suggested or, more recently, IRC or instant messaging.

Genetic Programming Inc. A privately funded research group that does research in applying genetic programming). Genetic programming (GP) is an automated method for creating a working computer program from a high-level problem statement of a problem. Genetic programming starts from a high-level statement of “what needs to be done” and automatically creates a computer program to solve the problem. Genetic programming starts with a primordial ooze of thousands of randomly created computer programs. This population of programs is progressively evolved over a series of generations. The evolutionary search uses the Darwinian principle of natural selection (survival of the fittest) and analogs of various naturally occurring operations, including crossover (sexual recombination), mutation, gene duplication, gene deletion. Genetic programming sometimes also employs developmental processes by which an embryo grows into fully developed organism.

The BrainOS group at HRI-EU, (Honda Research Institute Europe (HRI-EU). aims to identify, understand and model the principles of brain-like information processing. Our research concentrates on the functions of the brain, inspired and guided by findings from neuroscience. These indicate that the brain is organised in a highly distributed and decentralised way, with control acting on a local as well as on a global basis. Accordingly, we investigate the processing principles of the brain at different levels of description, ranging from very detailed networks of spiking neurons to models comprising several specialised brain areas that interact on a system level.
