Sender Policy Framework. Sender Address Forgery. Today, nearly all abusive e-mail messages carry fake sender addresses. The victims whose addresses are being abused often suffer from the consequences, because their reputation gets diminished and they have to disclaim liability for the abuse, or waste their time sorting out misdirected bounce messages. You probably have experienced one kind of abuse or another of your e-mail address yourself in the past, e.g. when you received an error message saying that a message allegedly sent by you could not be delivered to the recipient, although you never sent a message to that address. Sender address forgery is a threat to users and companies alike, and it even undermines the e-mail medium as a whole because it erodes people's confidence in its reliability. That is why your bank NEVER sends you information about your account by e-mail and keeps making a point of that fact.

DomainKey Implementor's Tools and Library for email servers & clients. The purpose of this project is to create a freely available library that can be easily adopted by most MTA and UA implementers to add DomainKeys functionality. The DomainKeys Library is being written in C and provides a foundation for implementing the DomainKeys email authentication system in mail transfer agents and mail user agents. SMTP  Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is a protocol used to send and receive emails.

POP  Post Office Protocol. Also POP3 which is POP Version 3 - A set of rules (protocol) by which a client machine can retrieve electronic mail from a mail server. The POP server ("post office") holds the e-mail until the user can retrieve it on their computer. POP3 does not provide for sending email, which can be done via SMTP or other method. POP3 can be used with or without SMTP, whereas the older POP2 standard requires SMTP to send messages.

Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP). IMAP provides the user more capabilities for retaining e-mail on the server and for organizing it in folders on the server. IMAP can be thought of as a remote file server.
