Mod and Modding. Custom Computer Ideas and Links

What is Modding? It is to "modify" something. It may refer to modifying hardware or software, (quite often it refers to hardware). This changes the design of that hardware. It can include such things as; adding LED display lights, painting computer cases, installing liquid cooling systems, overclocking, etc...  This can make to computer custom to you.

Remember that most Modding will make any warranty void.

The ionic system cooler (true 0dBA system) (Silent cooler) It's was a relatively quick build, the time from the photo shoot to publish has been an extremely long and rocky road. Regardless in the end we have produced the first ionic cooling system for your high end gaming system. This system produces absolutely no noise and in fact has no moving parts at all. While this is a proof of concept it proves that you can get the CFM you need to cool a system efficiently with no moving parts and no increase in power consumption.

Lapping a CPU. One of the main purposes of lapping a CPU is to provide a flatter, smother surface so that contact between the CPU and the heartsink is increased allowing for better heat transfer between the heatsnik and the CPU. This may be more important if you are Overclocking. The same may issue apply for other heatsinks, e.g. Graphics Cards. Also see CPU Processors.

Moore's law states "The number of transistors and resistors on a chip doubles every 18 months." By Intel co-founder Gordon Moore regarding the pace of semiconductor technology. He made this famous comment in 1965 when there were approximately 60 devices on a chip. Proving Moore's law to be rather accurate, four decades later, Intel placed 1.7 billion transistors on its Itanium chip. In 1975, Moore extended the 18 months to 24 months. More recently, he said that the cost of a semiconductor manufacturing plant doubles with each generation of microprocessor. Larger Graph Image

Notes and updates of trying to fix this:-

I wasn't even using the USB drive and even after using this method it lost and reconnected itself for no reason I can see. So using the method here fails for me. It may help for you but I doubt it, sorry.

I have tried moving the drive so that it is powered via a UPS but the problem still occurs, so it doesn't appear to be the power supply. I noticed when moving the computer the USB drive disconnected and reconnected but moving the cable and connector has not reproduced this issue. Sill testing will try a different USB port soon as possible.

Just tried different USB. I noticed that moving the USB plug vigorously did cause disconnect/reconnect. I unplugged it blow into the plug, (will try Isopropyl alcohol later if this still fails), then vigorously moved and it did NOT disconnect/reconnect, for now... (Some times contacts can get dirt on so a few unplugs/plug in's may help).

NO... This blow/plug/in/out/in Failed. (After some time it went mad, on/off/on/off quickly).

USB Loses Connection to External Hard Drive. If your USB looses/drops Connection to External Hard Drive this may help.

Sill testing will try a different USB port soon as possible and update here :)

Seems to be much improved since adding computer case fans, the computer used to get quite hot.

Now loses connection due to electrical spikes, waiting for capacitors to try to smooth these electrical spikes out. UPS, if spike on on same circut. Still it is now much, much better.
