Tangible holography A group from the University of Tokyo have developed a method for adding tangibility to holograms using focussed ultrasonic waves - This project adds tactile feedback to the hovering image in 3D free space. Tactile sensation requires contact with objects, but including a stimulator in the work space dilutes the appearance of holographic images. The Airborne Ultrasound Tactile Display solves this problem by producing tactile sensation on a user's hand without any direct contact and without diluting the quality of the holographic projection. Intel set-top chip decodes dual 1080p, handles 3D Intel at its third-day IDF keynote unveiled a new media system-on-a-chip (SoC) that should bring advanced media features to networked media hubs and TVs. The CE4100 is Intel's first all-in-one processor based on its Atom architecture and is made on a much smaller, more efficient 45 nanometer process than the Pentium M- and 65nm-based CE3100. These and a new hardware decoder give it enough power to render two simultaneous 1080p video streams, even in the more demanding H.264 format, and to render 3D graphics for the menu system or games.

Total Immersion. Augmented reality is an interactive experience where virtual components are dynamically merged into a live video stream in real time. Think: a virtual new concept car in the palm of your hand or a magic mirror where you can see yourself wearing as many pair of glasses you want without having to try them on.

Holograms That Respond to 'Touch' In the past, holograms served no real purpose. Sure, they've always been cool to look at, but that's pretty been it -- until now. Reuters reports that a group of Japanese scientists have developed technology that allows holograms to respond to human touch, opening up a world of uses for the 3-D images. The scientists at Tokyo University used ultrasonic waves and Nintendo Wii controllers to create a software program that not only tracks the movements of a person's hand, but also allows holograms to respond to the "touch" (or, really, non-touch) of a hand.

Alioscopy's displays are equipped with an array of lenticular lenses that cast different images onto each eye. Each lens magnifies a different point of view for each eye because it is viewed from slightly different angles. This results in a state of the art visual stereo effect. Alioscopy technology supports both 2D and 3D content in full HD resolution (1920 x 1080p). Standard video can be shown as well as specific 3D content, rendered with typical 3D software such as 3ds Max, Maya, Lightwave, and XSI. |

Play Tetris on a 3D display made of water Here's a pretty awesome 3d display, that uses synchronized droplets of water to project a 3-layer image. Rather than try to project simultaneously on 3 surfaces, the system actually works by interlacing. Each sheet of water can be turned on and off to create thin lines, which are synchronized so that only one of the sheets puts out water at a time. Then, a computer vision system tracks the location of each line, and a single projector illuminates it with the correct information. From Technabob |

It works with postcards, tintypes, daguerreotypes, photographs, cabinet cards, etc. It contains a primary mirror with a specially-calculated curvature surface. In 2010, It was re-introduced this to thousands of people at the New York Hall of Science. Search for the term "Shomescope" (pronounced show-me-scope). Ed says: Move over 3D TV, OLED... and no glasses needed to produce 3D and from 1914.

Those components have been developed at the Fraunhofer IGD and ZGDV in close cooperation with industrial partners: OpenSG: Open-source Scene-Graph renderings system.HID: Network transparent device and data-stream management system VisionLib: Flexible Vision/Image-pipeline processorAvalon: Dynamic scene management and manipulation system. The framework offers a comprehensive set of features to support classic Virtual Reality (VR) and advanced Augmented Reality (AR) equally well. The goal was to provide a very simple application interface while still including the latest research results in the fields of high-realistic rendering, 3D user interaction and total-immersive display technology.
